Toast Wood Cover for Nexus 5 Hands-on and Overview

After posting that the Toast wood cover for the Nexus 5 had gone live, we saw a lot of requests for a hands-on tour, so here it is. The cover is made of Walnut which is harvested in the good ol’ US of A, which is then cut, packaged, and shipped right from Portland, OR. We were able to spend some time inside the Toast facility a bit ago, so be sure to check out our tour right here

Applying the wood skin is simple enough – all you do is peel off the wood skins from the adhesive paper and then slap the skin on the phone. Once applied, you have a short amount of time to make adjustments to the placement, just in case you didn’t get it 100% right. Once you are sure it’s properly placed, you can start pressing nice and hard on the skin and it will be stuck on there for good. But don’t worry, the skins are quite easy to remove if you so choose and the nice thing is that it won’t leave messy residue once removed.

The skin is cut up into different sections, plus each button has its own wood sticker. If you don’t wish to put on the sides or want to leave a few buttons naked, you can do so. It also comes with a skin for the camera’s glass protector, but I left it off on mine because I like the contrast of the black on the wood.

The case costs $30 no matter which wood you choose (Walnut, White-washed Ash, Ebony, or Bamboo), but for an extra $5, you can have custom text burned onto the wood. It’s a great way to personalize your cover, and plus, it smells really good when burned.
