Aio Wireless announced this morning that it has dropped the rates of its plans while also upping the high-speed data caps of two. The new rates are as follows: Basic ($40), Smart ($50), and Pro ($60). The Basic plan remains a feature phone only plan (now for smartphones too), with the Smart and Pro as your options for smartphones.
The Basic plan now offers 500MB of high-speed data (up from 250MB), Smart has been bumped up to 2.5GB (from 2GB), and the Pro has been completely adjusted from 7GB to 5GB, but the price also dropped from $70 to $60.
If you want to drop your monthly bill lower than the $40, $50, and $60 price points, you can sign-up for Autopay and Aio will hack another $5 off. You could be paying as little as $45 per month for a smartphone and 2.5GB of data.
Even though Aio is owned by AT&T and has access to its 4G LTE network, the high-speed data maximum speed remains at 8 Mbps for your initial data allotment. After that, Aio will throttle the hell out of you until your month or billing cycle ends. Their plans are still considered “unlimited.”
Back in November, we did a write-up for the best prepaid wireless options for unlocked phones, and Aio Wireless made our list. In fact, I’m still using it to this day with my Nexus 5. Outside of the slower data speeds, I have had no issues or reason to switch off of it. Now with these new prices, I may be here for a while.
On a related note, if you want to switch to any of these new plans, you can do so easily through your account. Once logged in, you should see a “View/change” plans button in the lower left. Tap that, then “Change plans” on the next page, and then find the new plan you want to switch to.
