Samsung Galaxy S5 Details Reportedly Confirmed, Plastic and Metal Versions Coming

The mystery surrounding Samsung’s Galaxy S successor stems not from its projected release window, which is annual and relatively consistent, but from its internals and construction. Many speculated the Korea-based company intended to launch a flagship handset made with premium build materials, but little in the way of substantive evidence supported that idea. Today, proof has emerged in the form of a SamMobile source, who confirmed that the Galaxy S5 will come in both a metal and plastic model when it launches later this year.

It seems the pricier exterior will come at a premium: the source suggested the metal S5 will retail at 800 Euros (about $1091), which is quite a bit more than the plastic version’s anticipated price point 650 Euros ($886). Still, if the recent rumors of a metal back plate and band are to be believed, the new design will be a huge improvement over the polycarbonate body found on previous Galaxy S phones. Concerning internals and display, both fronts will see a massive upgrade: the S5 will feature an AMOLED at a resolution of 2,560×1,440 (the exact size remains unconfirmed), either a 64-bit Exynos 6 or Snadragon 805 SoC, and a 16 MP camera. It seems Samsung has crafted a handset from the dreams of hardware power enthusiasts everywhere.

In addition to the Galaxy S5, the SamMobile source also revealed that the company intends to launch a Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom later this year. Both devices will have a Super AMOLED display.

If all goes according to plan, Samsung will announce the Galaxy S5 in March and launch it in April, which lines up with comments made by a company executive to Bloomberg during CES. The Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom should see an official unveiling in June and May, respectively.
