NVIDIA’s Tegra NOTE 7 Tablet Sees Android 4.3 Update, Includes New Stylus and Camera Enhancements

NVIDIA’s ultra-affordable 7-inch tablet, the Tegra NOTE 7, received its first “significant” update since launch this morning. The update jumps the device up to Android 4.3, but that’s minor compared to what NVIDIA did to enhance the camera and the tablet’s stylus support. For those not familiar with NVIDIA’s update tactics, just know that you should probably expect updates like this on the regular. When the SHIELD launch earlier this year, NVIDIA told us that their goal was to update that device quite frequently, something I would imagine they will try to do with the $199 NOTE as well.

In the update, NVIDIA gave the camera always-on high-dynamic range (AOHDR) capability to help provide “more lifelike images” across various lighting conditions.  Thanks to the NOTE’s Tegra 4 processor and their Chimera photography architecture, this should work very well. For stylus users, the update adds support for left-handed users and also improves overall response.

The full details can be found below.

We’ve enhanced the Tegra NOTE stylus experience, adding support for left-handed users and improvements in overall response. We’ve also added a DirectStylus help option under the device setting’s menu, a stylus removal and insert notification on the notification bar, and given users the ability to capture the notification bar with full-screen capture.

In addition to these new features, Tegra NOTE 7′s camera gets always-on high-dynamic range (AOHDR) capability, which provides more lifelike images across a range of lighting conditions. AOHDR utilizes Tegra 4’s processing power and Chimera computational photography architecture. We’ve also added video stabilization for shake-free video, in addition to tuning and optimizations to improve camera performance under certain lighting conditions.

From an OS perspective, Tegra Note 7 now sports the Android 4.3 Operating System.

Finally, in addition to security and bug fixes, we’ve added the ability to transfer app and data files from internal memory to an external microSD card.

At $199, the Tegra NOTE 7 remains is a solid choice for potential tablet buyers, assuming there isn’t a Nexus 7 deal currently going on.
