Another Android-powered game console is now live for Americans to drop cash on, the MadCatz M.O.J.O. console, powered by a Tegra 4 processor. The console itself plus one controller, will run you $250, which is no laughing matter. It features full access to TegraZone, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store, but there is no feature that allows it to play anything other than Android games. For example, you can at least stream PC games to NVIDIA’s SHIELD device, so the M.O.J.O. is essentially a console that plays nothing but Android titles. If you are okay with that, then let’s talk about what you get for your money.
Coming bundled with the console itself is a single Bluetooth controller, which is modeled somewhat after an Xbox controller. On the controller you have your standard console-grade buttons, triggers, bumpers, sticks, and all of that goodness. The console is powered by a Tegra 4 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and it features 2GB of RAM, as well as 16GB of internal storage, runs Android 4.2.2, two USB ports, a MicroSD slot, HDMI out port, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. It’s a beast little device, and looks sexy to boot, but for $250?
It’s hard to justify a price like that, considering SHIELD is just $299 and actually offers more features and the portability aspect. With the apparent rise and fall of OUYA, are we realizing that Android-powered game consoles not really that desirable? We shall see.
