Google may have just launched the Android Device Manager last week to help you find your lost Android if it ever comes to that, but the CyanogenMod team felt they could do better. The CM team has put together CyanogenMod Account, an end-to-end encrypted app that users can opt into once it starts rolling out, that allows CM to track your device and help you recover it or wipe/flash it if you can’t get to it in time.
The first concern that CyanogenMod wanted to address was to assure to everyone that they wouldn’t be selling their data to anyone. The service is going to be optional as well for those who don’t feel comfortable giving up that much information. Other than explaining its end-to-end encryption, Team Douche hasn’t explained the system all that much, but you can expect a comprehensive, well working service. Since this is a large change, the team won’t be rolling this feature out in nightlies just yet. They have pushed Account to their code and are allowing developers to put it together and test it on their own before it goes live.
Will you opt into this service when you get it on your device?
