This morning at Google’s event in SF, the company has announced a brand new Nexus 7 tablet. The tablet is light and was designed to be more portable, according to Hugo Barra.

It features the same 7″ display, but comes with a higher resolution (1920 x 1200), back-facing camera, dual stereo speakers and Fraunhofer audio technology. It ships with a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, dual-band WiFi and there is a 4G LTE variant for AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile on a single device. Not multiple variants for different carriers. It also packs in wireless charging. Battery performance has been increased as well, going up a full hour of usage.

For students, Google announced Google Play Text Books, a way for students to get their books purely digital, no more 400 page door stops. It will launch in August.

The tablet comes shipped with Android 4.3, the first device to do so.

The device is priced at $229 for the 16GB WiFi model starting next tuesday on July 30. The 32GB LTE model will be available in the coming weeks for $349. Finally, the 32GB WiFi model will be priced at $269.
