The Developer Edition of the HTC One will go on sale April 5 (today) at 7:00AM PDT (10:00AM Eastern). Announced back in March by HTC as being both SIM and bootloader unlocked, this device is the ultimate developer tool, should you not want to deal with whatever secure situations the carriers will throw at their versions of the One. The price of the dev edition runs $649, which is the full retail price of the phone. There are no contracts here – if you buy it, you own it outright.
At $649, you are getting the silver version of the One with 64GB of internal storage, connectivity on HSPA+ networks (850/1900/2100MHz) and LTE (700/850/AWS/1900MHz). Those bands include AT&T HSPA+ in most markets, T-Mobile HSPA+ in some that have been refarmed for 1900, and potentially T-Mobile LTE. The rest of the phone is identical to what you’ll see in carrier stores, meaning it’ll have the 4.7″ 1080p display, 2GB RAM, HTC Sense 5.0, BoomSound, and a newly minted UltraPixel camera.
HTC has said that there will be “limited quantities.” If you want the dev edition, be sure to have your browser open to HTC’s site when the time comes.
Update: Here is the pre-order link.
Update 2: HTC is also listing the SIM unlocked 32GB version of the phone with 32GB of storage for just $575. That’s a hell of a price, folks. You won’t find unlocked versions that cheap from any of the unlocked retailers across the globe. Here is the pre-order link.
