According to Twitter account @evleaks, a reliable source of insider information for the mobile industry, the HTC M7 has been “confirmed” for all of the major U.S. carriers except T-Mobile. Yes, if you do the math or piece together the rest of the puzzle, that means Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint could all see this latest flagship device from HTC.
While that’s awesome news if true, we’re a bit confused – why does Verizon need another top tier HTC phone when they recently released the DROID DNA? It’s been well documented that this phone could sport a 4.7″ 1080p display (if one exists), a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB RAM, 13MP camera, and run HTC’s newest version of Sense. There isn’t a lot in what you just read that would differentiate the M7 from the previously mentioned DNA. In fact, it even looks a lot like it without the red strips on the side.
I should point out (and something I’ve mentioned on the DL Show a few times) that I asked HTC in October why they hadn’t launched their flagship One X on all carriers. They were quick to respond with something along the lines of, “in a perfect world we would have.” After seeing the success of Samsung with their multi-carrier launching of the Galaxy line of devices, HTC knows that a multi-carrier launch would greatly help their chances of making a comeback in 2013. Maybe the M7 (still a codename) is the first attempt at that.
We’re still in the dark as far as a release date goes, but HTC will more than likely show this phone off at next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
