This may not be directly Android-related, but I found it interesting enough to share with those of you that may not have seen it. A report out of Forbes, talks about a special perk that you qualify for if you work at Google – death benefits. Chief People Officer Laszlo Bock talked about how they may “sound ridiculous” and that there is “no benefit to Google,” but that is not the point. During death, families experience one of the harshest times of their lives and Google wants to help the families of their employees deal with it.
So what are the “death benefits” that you get as a Google employee? Well first off, there doesn’t seem to be a tenure requirement, so that means almost all of their employees should qualify. Should you pass on though, during your time as an employee, Google will pay 50% of your salary for 10 years to your family. Your stocks will also be vested immediately and each of your children (assuming you have some) will receive $1,000 per month until they are 19 (or 23 if going to school full-time).
Bock talked about statistics that show improving employee performance when you have incredible benefits packages, however, they offer death benefits “simply because it’s the right thing to do.”
Props, Google.
