Verizon to Shutter Several Customer Service Centers, Affecting Roughly 3100 Jobs

Verizon Wireless announced that they are closing doors on 3 customer service centers (Bellevue,WA; Southfield, MI; Houston,TX), a move that affects around 3,100 jobs. When moves like this happen, one immediately jumps to wondering how much money is involved, but a spokesperson for Big Red did not comment on that subject. What they would offer is details on the 3 options that current employees of these affected call centers have:  accept jobs in neighboring locations, take $10K to relocate, or a severance package.

It’s not always about 4G LTE and high-end phones, is it?

Update:  We had a source reach out to us after reading through some of the comments that suggested Verizon was moving customer service jobs overseas. According to this source, that is not the case at all and VZW service centers remain 100% in the U.S. This was a move “about efficiencies and ridding smaller yet higher cost centers for some of the newer, larger corporate owned centers.” We have reached out to Verizon PR to get confirmation on this.
