Whenever we get close to the release of a new version of Android, we like to take a look at our site analytics to see if new numbers have popped up. With Ice Cream Sandwich headed to a device near you in late October or early November, it has still remained pretty mysterious on the numbering front. Is it Android 2.4 or 4.0? We would lean towards 4.0 for a couple of reasons. Since we all know that ICS will merge Honeycomb (Android 3.0) and Gingerbread (Android 2.3), it doesn’t make sense that we would be taking a step back from 3.0 to 2.4, does it? And remember, ICS is for both tablets and phones, so again with the thought of moving forward, 4.0 seems like the logical choice.
And then of course we can come back to site analytics here at Droid Life that clearly show a small spike in traffic starting September 16, under version Android 4.0. That’s right, no where in our analytics will you find Android 2.4 or 2.4.1, but you can certainly find plenty of Android 4.0 occurrences over the last week.
There is a chance that these could be spoofed, but the timing knowing that ICS is around the corner, fits nicely.
