The Regulatory Charge on your Verizon bill could potentially increase from $0.13 to $0.16 starting July 1, meaning you’ll have an opportunity to get out of your contract without having to pay an ETF (early termination fee). The change in amount of the fee is minimal of course, but according to Big Red’s Verizon’s customer agreement, these tiny changes are enough reason for you to walk away:
Can Verizon Wireless Change This Agreement or My Service?
We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we’ll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you’re accepting the change. If you’re a Postpay customer and a change to your Plan or this agreement has a material adverse effect on you, you can cancel the line of Service that has been affected within 60 days of receiving the notice with no early termination fee.
If Verizon has been making you steamed with all this tiered data nonsense, or you’re just fed up with them in general (everyone has their own horror stories with carriers), according to The Consumerist, just call up VZW, and ask to be transferred to the Retention Dept. You’ll then use this information to tell them that this 3 cent difference is a Material Adverse Change, and you want out of your contract with no fees.
They will tempt you with freebies most likely, or try to tell you otherwise than what you would like to hear, but if given any grief, just take it to their supervisor. If you’ve been trying to escape the Red Army’s clutches, then now could be your chance. Good luck.
*Note – We should point out that by exiting your contract, you would then be subject to tiers.
