NVIDIA shocked the mobile world yesterday when they announced that their new “Kal-el” quad-core processor could possibly ship in tablets by August and in phones by the end of 2011. This move was completely unexpected, but also a little odd especially with so few products on the market running their current processor, the Tegra 2. We couldn’t help but think about reconsidering our plans to buy not only a XOOM, but even a DROID BIONIC. Both are going to be impressive devices, but if there is a chance you could own a quad-core device by Fall, would you be willing to wait? And as far as phones go, who wants to be locked into a contract when we could have a quad-core device in 10 months?
