Confirmed via the OnePlus forums, the last Android version update the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will receive is Android O.
Considering the OnePlus 3 was released in June of last year, this is pretty weak. Technically, Android O will count as the second major software update for the device (it launched with Android 6.0+ Marshmallow), but in terms of time, this equals to about only a year and a half of updates. For the OnePlus 3T, which launched in November of last year, that means it is only getting about a year of updates.
Here’s what OnePlus said in the forums.
Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OP3/3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates. After the OP3/3T have been updated to Android O, we’ll start moving the Open Beta Program from OP3/3T to OP5.
OnePlus does specifically mention that security updates will continue for the “foreseeable future” (whatever that means), but still, buyers of this phone probably would have liked to have a solid two years of Android version updates.
OnePlus 3 and 3T owners, how do you feel about this?
