Big user of Evernote? Hopefully, for your sake, you either pay for their premium tiers or you don’t use it on more than two devices. Why do I say that? Because this week, Evernote announced that its free tier, otherwise known as Evernote Basic, will start limiting users to access on just two devices. They are also adjusting Plus and Premium price tiers for new subscribers.
Evernote penned a pretty straight forward blog post to touch on each of these topics, saying that exactly what you expected them to say – they’d rather not do this, but keeping this best-in-class note app updated and innovative going forward costs money.
Over the “coming weeks,” Evernote is going to limit all of their free (Basic) accounts to access of notes on just two devices. If that’s your situation, just know that they are giving you “at least 30 days to adjust.” So once they flip the switch, it sounds like you’ll still have a good month to figure out which devices you want that to see access. To deauthorize any unwanted devices, head to your Evernote account at this link and get to work.
In terms of new pricing, the Basic plan will stay free, Plus will jump to $34.99 per year ($3.99 per month), and Premium will jump to $69.99 per year ($7.99 per month). Previous pricing for Plus and Premium was $2.99 and $5.99 per month, respectively.
Are you already a subscriber to Plus or Premium? According to Evernote FAQ, it sounds as if “not everyone will be affected by a price change.” Evernote also says that if you are up for a price change (hike), you will be notified within the next few weeks. Fun.
